Good governance thrives on open dialogue between leaders and the people they serve. To strengthen this relationship, we support local governments to organize town hall meetings, where citizens engage directly with their local authorities. These meetings create space for accountability, transparency, and inclusiveness. Residents share concerns, ask questions, and provide feedback, while assemblies explain policies, budgets, and development priorities. This two-way exchange ensures that governance reflects community needs.

FoN has facilitated town hall meetings in Shama, Sekondi-Takoradi, Effia Kwesimintsim, Tarkwa Nsuaem, Wassa East, and Ellembelle Prestea Huni Valley, Wassa Amenfi East, in the Western Region, and Sefwi Wiawso, Aowin, Bia districts etc. in the Western North Region, bringing together residents, traditional leaders, opinion leaders, assembly members, and local officials.

Our Role

  • Capacity Building: Training assembly officers to plan and deliver effective meetings.

  • Facilitation: Ensuring inclusive dialogue where all voices; youth, women, traders, and vulnerable groups are heard.

  • Transparency Promotion: Encouraging assemblies to disclose how revenues like market fees and tolls are collected and spent.

  • Feedback Loops: Strengthening responsiveness by linking citizen feedback with assembly action.

Impact

Town hall meetings have:

  • Increased citizen participation in governance.

  • Improved accountability in revenue mobilization and expenditure.

  • Strengthened trust and partnerships between assemblies and communities.

Building Accountability Together

For FoN, town hall meetings are not one-off events but part of a broader culture of open governance. By sustaining these platforms, assemblies and citizens together create a more transparent, responsive, and people-centered democracy.

👉 We call on citizens to actively participate and on assemblies to uphold openness and accountability as the foundation of development.
